Welcome to Year 6

Hello everyone,

We hope that you have all had a lovely summer break and that you are all ready for an exciting Autumn term. Below you will find some information ready for this term and in the files you will find our Autumn newsletter and topic web. This outlines more details about our curriculum this term and some important dates specific to Year 6.

Staffing

We are extremely lucky to have an experienced team of adults working together in Year 6 this year. Miss Poland will be your child’s class teacher with her PPA (planning and assessment time) on a Thursday afternoon. During this time, Mrs. Taylor will be talking the class. We are very lucky to have Mrs. Clarke supporting us all day on Monday, on Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning. Mrs. Davies will support in class Wednesday afternoon, Thursday morning and Friday afternoon.

Things to bring

All day-to-day equipment will be provided by school such as pens, pencils, rulers, rubbers and sharpeners. Therefore, your child will not require a pencil case on their table at all times. However, during art activities, using our creative humanities books or publishing our amazing writing, your child may be allowed to use their own felt tips, colouring pencils or gel pens. They be instructed by the class teacher or support staff if they are allowed to collect them from their bags to use them on their work.

You will need to bring in a waterbottle each day which can be refilled at suitable times as well as a healthy snack. Snack will be available to be purchased from school each day if prefered.

PE

Our PE days will be every Tuesday and Friday.

From September, children will need to come into school in their uniform everyday. They will require a PE kit to be kept in school at all times. The kit will need to consist of: a plain (or logoed) light blue PE top, plain navy shorts, a pair of trainers or pumps. Please remember, earrings and watches will need to be removed for these sessions and long hair tied back. We are asking you to send your child's PE kit to school in a named bag- these will be kept in the cloakroom and sent home every half term to be washed.

Depending on the time of year children may also need a pair of joggers to be brought in for outdoor PE. On PE days, children will be able to wear their sports hoodies instead of their jumpers if they have them.

Homework, Diaries and Spellings

Homework will be set on Fridays and will be expected to be returned on the following Thursday unless otherwise discussed. Children will come home with their Reading and Homework Diaries which will contain their homework and spelling patterns that they will be learning in school. There will be a space for parents to write a comment if they choose to do so. Please ensure that your child brings in their homework diaries into school every day (the best place to keep them is in their bag!).

See you all soon!
