Year 2 Autumn Week 5
Date: 3rd Oct 2023 @ 7:06pm
This week has been super busy!
On Monday, Mrs Cox did lots of vocabulary work and the children thought about what they might be able to hear if they were sitting with Jack and his mum by the burger van (Jack & The Baked Beanstalk story). The children were able to order numbers within 100 and fill in missing numbers on a numberline.
On Tuesday, Miss Wooldridge was back. We began to introduce the use of commas in a list. This is super tricky and we will keep working on this. We wrote lists of all the busy jobs that Jack's mummy does every day. There were lots! We had an acitve maths lesson where we ordered ourselves (holding either a number, a visual representation or numerals as words). There was lots of discussion about where we should place each number. This was lots of fun and it was sunny so we managed to get outside too! Today, we practiced our spellings in school and had a word hunt around the classroom.
On Wednesday, we has a Geography morning and created our own treasure maps! We looked at Mickle Trafford Village on Google Earth, tried to spot the streets that the children live on and talked about the directions we would need to take to reach certain parts of our school. Wednesday afternoon was full of music!
On Thursday, Mrs Taylor had a wonderful morning with the children. They all enjoyed P.E and shape work in maths. They especially loved their Science afternoon.
On Friday (today!) Mrs Cox was back in Year 2 with the children. They have been cutting and peeling vegetables, tasting vegetables, making vegetable soup and tasting vegetable soup. The children have come home today with a whole school homework, this has also been sent out via School Spider/ email.
Dear parents,
https://www.itv.com/britaingettalking/schools.html
This weekend we would like to invite the children to get involved with Young Minds national program Britain Get Talking. They may have already seen the adverts on TV and they have shared the Ant and Dec assembly information in class today. It is an opportunity to spend time together sharing worries, challenges, celebrations and thoughts.
We have placed one paper copy of the homework sheet in your eldest child’s bag for your guidance. It does not have to be filled in and we do not need you to return it to school.
We would ask that you and your child reflect after your chat regarding how they felt before sharing information and how they felt afterwards.
Children will be reflecting upon this homework during their next Zones of Regulation lesson.
More information can be found on our school website including a link to Young Minds.
Thank you for your continued support
Julie Cox and Liz Weston.
