Well, we all made it through the first month of 2024 and we topped this month off with a great week! We had a very exciting gymnastics lesson this week where the children were able to use the large, indoor climbing equipment to develop their understanding of travel and flight. It is always a huge highlight of primary school when this equipment comes out so hopefully we've made so great memories for the children.
In maths, we started our Algebra topic. As most children fear the word 'algebra', we took on our first lesson without a mention of it. All the children were feeling extremely positive about their very first lesson and were shocked when they found out what they had just done. This has set a positive attitude for the topic and they are enjoying their learning. We described it as 'code-breaking' which many of the children enjoyed.
In geography, we have been introduced to the country of El Salvador in North America. We have used our knowledge of scales from our maths lessons to calculate the distance from the UK to El Salvador- it is a whopping 9,000km away! Over the next few weeks, we will be looking that the country in more detail and comparing it to the UK.
In science, we conducted our research into Carl Linnaeus. We have learned about who he was, when he was alive and, most importantly, what he was famous for and how this links to our topic. The children, once again, have created some beautiful pieces of work which they should be very proud of.
